Plaque commemorates courageous
journalist
Following on another
story in this issue
of The Canadian Vindicator
dealing with freedom
of the Press, the murder
six years ago of courageous
Irish journalist Veronica
Guerin has been commemorated
by the unveiling of
a plaque at the scene
where she was killed.
The memorial, which is
situated opposite the
traffic lights at Newlands
Cross, on the Naas Road,
outside Dublin, consists
of a flower bed and
a plaque carrying the
inscription "May
we always remember her
for her courage."
Guerin worked as a reporter
for the Sunday Independent
newspaper, and had relentlessly
investigated drug trafficking
criminals in Dublin.
Her mother, husband,
and twelve year old
son attended the unveiling,
as did Garda Commissioner
Pat Byrne and Gavin
O'Reilly, chief operating
officer of Independent
News and Media.
