The Unelected Canadian Senate - Three More Appointees
Three more unelected Canadians have become members of the unelected
Canadian Senate, bringing the total appointed by the current elected
Prime Minister to sixty-one. Please revise the totals given in
the table previously published in the Canadian Vindicator.
To date the score stands at 842 unelelected, 1 elected.
The announcement of the three new appointees was made public
on Thursday, October 4.
"But what can I do? I'm only one person."
Yes, you may be only one person. But you are one person with
the power to make a difference, one person with the power to call
for change, one person with the power to demand that Canada become
a modern democratic state.
And that power is at your finger tips.
Simply use this site to exercise the power of the Internet. By
calling up the List of Members you
can immediately contact any Member of Parliament by e-mail, state
your view on the unelected Senate, and ask for his/her response.
If a Member of Parliament ignores your e-mail, let that fact
be known. Other members will be glad to know. Earlier this year,
2001, one Member thought fit to wonder why he should support a
constituent who hadn't voted for him in the previous general election.
When other members found this out, they had a field day, and the
erring member was pilloried, day after day, until the lesson was
learned that representing a constituency meant representing all
its residents.
